Perth: Vespers Service for the Feast Day of Sts Constantine and Helene

In a spirit of great festal and paschal joy, the feast of Saints Constantine and Helen was celebrated in Northbridge in the homonymous church of the Greek Orthodox Community of Perth on Friday the 20th of May. The service was Presided over by His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea.

The vespers service was celebrated in an atmosphere of grand splendour with clergy, chanters and the faithful from all the Archdiocesan District of Perth parishes coming together at this historic church for the annual celebration.

During his sermon, His Grace highlighted for the faithful the connection between St Constantine the Great and the Apostle Paul which is emphasised in the dismissal hymn (Απολυτίκιον) of the feast day. The connection between St Paul, the Apostle of the nations and St Constantine is the calling  from above that they were both granted through a vision and being both specifically selected in becoming co-workers in God’s plan of salvation.

His Grace Bishop Elpidios conveyed to all the faithful the love and paternal blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia. In particular, His Grace reminded the faithful that His Eminence would soon be visiting Perth between May 28 and May 31, including a visit to the Church of Sts Constantine and Helene to Preside over the vespers service on Saturday evening the 28th of May.

At the conclusion of the service sweets were distributed to all the faithful who had attended the service.
