Perth: The Lamentations Service at the Church of St Nektarios

With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea presided over the Lamentations (Epitaphio) Service at the Church of Saint Nektarios in Dianella.

The solemn Holy Friday Service, rich in Orthodox spiritual splendour,  was well attended by the faithful of Perth including the Greek Consul of Greece in Perth, Mrs Georgia Karasiotou.

His Grace in His speech at the end of the Epitaphio Procession, highlighted that for the Orthodox faithful, the services of Holy Week, are a time where we relive the historic events that took place. We relive the drama of the Passion of Christ, the most horrific crime that ever took place in history and we relive it as if it were happening today right in front of our eyes. His Grace outlined how the hymns of Holy Week refer to the present tense, “Today He (Christ) is hung upon the cross” and how on Holy Saturday evening we will be celebrating the glorious resurrection of our Lord and reliving the resurrection in the same way the myrrh bearing women lived it.

With this great joy in mind of the resurrection, His Grace conveyed to all the faithful, the paternal and fatherly love and blessing to all from His Eminence Archbishop Makarios for the forthcoming Feast of Pascha.

His Grace also invited The Greek Consul in Perth to say a few words where her best wishes were conveyed to all the faithful present.

Finally at the conclusion of the service His Grace thanked all the volunteers and wished them many years towards continuing to serve the Church and our Holy Archdiocrse.
