Perth: The celebration of the Anniversary of “OXI Day”

The Celebrations for the 83rd Anniversary of “OXI Day” were conducted with great splendour in the Archdiocesan District of Perth on Sunday the 29 October 2023.

The celebrations commenced with the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Church of Saint Nektarios in Dianella and was officiated by His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Perth. At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, the official Doxology was recited giving the faithful the opportunity to reflect on the importance of sacrifice and freedom.

In his sermon, His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea reminded everyone how our Greek National Day also coincides with the Feast of the Holy Protection of the Theotokos, who continues to safeguard all people.

Prior to the dismissal, His Grace conveyed to the Consul of Greece in Perth, Mrs. Gina Karasiotou, the Principle of St Andrew’s Grammar, Mr. Craig Monaghan and all the faithful, the paternal love and blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

At 12.30pm on the same day the Consulate of Greece in Perth hosted the official Wreath Laying Ceremony at the State War Memorial in Kings Park which saw many people in attendance this year.
