Northcote: Sunday before the Nativity of Christ at the Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord, Thomastown

On the Sunday before the Nativity of Christ, 24 December 2023, His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Northcote, liturgised at the Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord, in the suburb of Thomastown, Melbourne.

His Grace Bishop Evmenios, after having conveyed the blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia for the feasts of the Holy Twelve Days of Christmas, during his sermon, analysed the Gospel passage of the day which referred to the genealogy of Christ.

“It is of great importance that today we heard all these names, that is, the genealogy of Christ – the names of righteous people, but also of people who lived their lives in a prodigal way”, he noted and added: “This makes us remember that Christ came into the world through the world, to give opportunities to all of humanity, opportunities for change, opportunities that only He can give to all of us.”

“Christ was born to save not some but all of us, regardless of race and nationality,” Bishop Evmenios emphasised at another point, while concluding he asked the faithful to celebrate Christmas by making their hearts a manger for Christ.
