Northcote: Palm Sunday at the Archdiocesan Church of Our Lady ‘Axion Esti’

On Palm Sunday, 28 April 2024, His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta liturgised at the Archdiocesan Church of Our Lady ‘Axion Esti’, in Northcote, Victoria.

His Grace blessed the palms, as prescribed by the typikon of the Church, and conveyed to the congregation the wishes and blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

During his sermon, referring to the great feast of the day, His Grace emphasised that “we must be firm in our faith and warm, not lukewarm”. “The same people who shouted ‘Hosanna, blessed is the one who comes”, he continued, “after a few days they were shouting to crucify Christ. So we have to reflect on whether today we also welcome Christ, but then, within seconds, cut him off from our lives.”

Finally, His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, referred to the Sacred Services of Holy Week and emphasised their importance in light of the celebration of the Lord’s Resurrection and urged the faithful to participate in all of them and experience the events of the Holy Passion in a meaningful way.
