Metropolitan of Zambia met with the President of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia

On Tuesday, 28 May 2024, with the blessing of His Bestitude Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and all Africa, His Eminence Metropolitan John of Zambia and Mozambique, in the premises of the Holy Metropolis in Lusaka, held a discussion meeting for the organisation of two weeks of activities related to the promotion of the Olympic spirit, education, and values.

The meeting was attended by the President of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) and a large number of his staff, the Coordinator of Parliament and Government, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYSA), the President of the Zambia Olympic Association ( ZOA) and all the Zambia / Hellenic Olympic Organising Committee ( ZHOOC) of the Archdiocese.

In between some points of discussion, it was suggested that a number of religious leaders, youth, society, organisations, etc. be invited to attend the event and sign the ceasefire treaty for peace all over the world.

At the end of the meeting, the Metropolitan offered to the President of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia a flag of the Hellenic Republic and another one of the Olympic Games to be installed in their premises and granted a pendant of the Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa and another one of the Olympic Games.

All the teams present agreed on the program of twelve days of functions and activities with the arrival of the two gold medal winners in Zambia from Greece.

The Metropolitan asked that the flag of the birthplace of the Olympic Games be hoisted on its ground so that the new generation will learn and remember that “HELLAS” is the birthplace of the Olympic Games.
