Metropolitan Iakovos of Ireland visits the Holy Archdiocese of Australia

On Thursday, 16 January 2025, His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos of Ireland visited the headquarters of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia in Sydney.

The Hierarch of the Ecumenical Throne was warmly welcomed by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, who was joined by clergy of the Archdiocese.

After his tour of the recently renovated Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady, the Metropolitan of Ireland was received by the Archbishop at the Archbishop’s Office, where they had a fruitful discussion about ministry to the Greek Diaspora, which is the mission of the Eparchies of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and their local Shepherd.

His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia briefly presented the historical development, action and work of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia on the fifth continent, while he extended sincere and fraternal wishes to the Metropolitan of Ireland, for the fulfillment of the high mission he undertook in March of last year and his response to the expectations of the Mother Church and His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

Finally, the Archbishop thanked Metropolitan Iakovos for his visit to Australia and wished him a pleasant stay and that his communication and interaction with the Christ-loving people of the local Church would be fruitful and spiritually beneficial.

For his part, the Metropolitan of Ireland thanked Archbishop Makarios for his cordial welcome and fraternal hospitality, while congratulating him on the God-pleasing work he is carrying out, wishing that God would grant him strength and health, for the realisation of his noble visions.
