Metropolitan Elder Joachim of Nicomedia fell asleep in the Lord

On Great and Holy Friday, 14 April 2023, His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Joachim of Nicomedia fell asleep in the Lord, who was an important Hierarch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

The blessed Metropolitan had graduated from the Theological School of Halki in 1966. He was ordained a deacon on December 18, 1966 in the Holy Church of the Entrance of the Theotokos in Stavrodromi, by Metropolitan Kyrillos of Chaldia, and an Priest on September 21, 1973, by Metropolitan Meliton of Chalcedon. On June 27, 1977 he was promoted to acting Metropolitan with the same title. On December 10, 1991, he was elected Metropolitan of Chalcedon, while on March 21, 2008, he was elected Metropolitan of Nicomedia.

The Ecumenical Patriarchate issued an announcement regarding the falling asleep of the blessed Elder Metropolitan Joachim of Nicomedia, informing, among other things, that the funeral service will take place in the Patriarchal Church, in the Phanar, on April 20, 2023.
