Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia welcomes Patriarch of Alexandria in Kalamata, Greece

On Thursday, 1 February 2024, the city of Kalamata in Southern Greece warmly welcomed His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa.

The Patriarch received a cordial reception in the city, greeted by His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia and the Mayor of Kalamata, Mr. Thanasis Vasilopoulos, at the impressive Metropolitan Church of the Presentation of Christ.

His Beatitude presided over the festive Poly-Hierarchical Vespers, a sacred occasion graced by the presence of esteemed religious figures, including His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Gabriel of Leontopolis, His Eminence Metropolitan Georgios of Guinea, His Eminence Metropolitan Meletios of Carthage, and His Grace Bishop Prodromos of Toliara and Southern Madagascar. Also present for the Vespers were, Their Eminences, Metropolitan Efstathios of Monemvasia and Sparta, Metropolitan Damaskinos of Didymoteicho, Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Chalkida, Metropolitan Athenagoras of Ilion, Metropolitan Konstantinos of Megara, Metropolitan Theoklitos of Stagoi and Meteora, and the local Shepherd, His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia.

The religious events marking the celebration of the patron of Kalamata, Panagia Ypapanti, will culminate on Friday, 2 February 2024. The Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord in the Temple will be commemorated with the Patriarchal Divine Liturgy and a procession of the Miraculous Icon around the city.
