Metropolitan Alexandros of Mantineia falls asleep in the Lord

Today, Tuesday, 19 December 2023, His Eminence Metropolitan Alexandros of Mantineia and Kynouria fell asleep in the Lord, aged 87 years old.

His Eminence took his last breath, after a long battle with his health over the last few months.

His Eminence Metropolitan Alexandros was born on 28 October 1936 in the village of Paparis, Arcadia

He graduated from the Ecclesiastical School of Corinth and subsequently studied at the Theological School of the University of Athens.

He also holds a Master’s degree in Orthodox Theology from the University of Cyprus.

The title of his master’s thesis is: “The Metropolitan Church of Saint Basil of Tripoli”.

He was elected Metropolitan of Nafpaktos and Agios Vlasios in May 1984.

In 1985, he proceeded to establish a Priestly Training School in Nafpaktos for the training of new clergy, while in the same year the ecclesiastical periodical “Ecclesiastical ship” began to be published under his direction.

In 1986 he proceeded to establish a School of Byzantine Music in Nafpaktos, under the supervision of the Metropolis.

During his days, also in Nafpaktos, an Interorthodox Conference was organised with the participation of the Autocephalous Churches of Alexandria, Romania, Russia, Bulgaria, Serbia and Prague, and under the general supervision of His Beatitude Archbishop Seraphim of Athens and all Greece.

In January 1995 he was elected Metropolitan of Mantineia and Kynouria.

His enthronement took place in the Holy Metropolitan Church of Saint Basil of Tripoli on 26 February 1995.

In 2016 he was a member of the Delegation of the Church of Greece to the Pan-Orthodox Synod of Crete.
