Melbourne: Tribute to the Heroes of the Greek Revolution of 1821

The brave fighters and those who fell during the heroic struggle of the Greeks for freedom, in 1821, were honoured by the Greeks of Melbourne, in an anniversary event held on Sunday, 24 March 2024, at the Shrine of Remembrance, next to the Eternal Flame.

More specifically, an official Wreath Laying Ceremony was held, with the participation of the Consul General of Greece in Melbourne, Mr. Emmanuel Kakavelakis, the Federal Member of Parliament, Ms. Maria Vamvakinou MP, the Chairman of the Victorian National Anniversary Committee, Mr. Tony Tsourdalakis, and other representatives of political authorities and Greek organisations and associations, as well as by student delegations.

The memorial service was officiated by His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Melbourne, in the presence of His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Northcote, and clergy of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.
