Melbourne: Mother’s Day Celebratory dinner hosted in the Archdiocesan District of Melbourne
On the occasion of the International Mothers’ Day, His Grace, Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis together with the Central Philoptochos Ladies Auxillary of the Archdiocesan District of Melbourne organised a dinner in which most parishes of the District participated.
His Eminence, Metropolitan Ezekiel of Dervis also attended. The purpose of the evening was to pay tribute to all the mothers, but also to raise money for the new initiative of the Archdiocesan District of Melbourne, “Five Loaves”.
His Grace, Bishop Kyriakos, after thanking the community of Sts Anargyri , their priest, Father George Adamakis, and the Committee Members, spoke about the greatness of mothers, urging everyone to also have in mind the mothers who may not have the possibility to have their children with them, either because they have become involved with drugs and other substances or because they are on the streets.
“That’s why we started the ‘Five Loaves’ initiative,” His Grace noted, “to help all the children of the world, regardless of who or what they are.” “This, after all, is the concern of His Eminence, our Archbishop and he exhorts us to serve others,” he added.
In closing, His Grace gave all the mothers a wooden cross, made with wood from the monastery he served as abbot for 23 consecutive years, that of St. George in Yellow Rock, NSW.
Finally, he thanked all those present for their participation at the dinner.
