Melbourne: His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis presided at memorial service for Cypriot Church leaders in the Greek War of Independance.

His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis attends Entrance of the Theotokos into the Temple, Balwyn to preside in Divine Liturgy and conduct a memorial service for Cypriot Church leaders in the Greek War of Independance.

On Sunday, 10 July 2022 with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios o Australia, His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis attended the Holy Church of the Entrance of the Theotokos into the Temple, Balwyn to preside in the Divine Liturgy. His Grace also conducted the memorial service for the memory of Archbishop Kyprianos of Cyprus, Bishops Chrysanthos of Paphos, Meletios of Kiti, Lavrentions of Kerinia and other clergy, as well as civilians, who were executed by the Ottoman Rulers on the 9th of July 1821 in Cyprus.

His Grace Bishop Kyriakos was joined by the parish priest reverend father Nicholas Georgiou, the High Commissioner of Cyprus Mrs Martha Mavromatis, Mr Bruce Atkinson MLC, Member of the Eastern Region, who represented the leader of the Opposition Mr Mathew Guy, Cr Nick Stavrou from the city of Boroondara, Community Leaders and other Dignitaries.

The memorial is a reminder of Cyprus’s involvement in the Greek war of independence against the Ottoman occupation which spanned for more than 400 years to inturn bring freedom and prosperity.
