Melbourne: His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis on the 5th Sunday of Lent

On the 5th Sunday of Lent,  April 10, 2022, the day our church celebrates the feast of Saint Mary of Egypt, His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis presided over the Matins and Divine Liturgy at the Parish of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Morwell, Victoria.

In his brief sermon His Grace Bishop Kryiakos noted that today we are all given the opportunity through today’s gospel reading and through the synaxarion, to understand that our church is the presence of the love of God in the world.

The door of happiness and the blessing of paradise is open for everyone especially for us who are fighting our passions. The church gives us the example of St. Mary of Egypt today on the 5thSunday of lent, who from the moment she asked Panagia to help her, she began to live a life of repentance and overcame her passions and became a Saint.

The Lord comes and shows us the path of redemption through his love and grace showing the world, that through repentence comes transformation.

Whoever comes to the Church of Christ through true Repentance, becoming a partaker of this Sacrament of Salvation, then he is saved and becomes a Saint because he is united with God himself.

In conclusion, he wished to all the spiritual strength of prayer and the strength of repentance, so that we can all enjoy together the blessing of grace, of which will make us worthy in a few days to venerate Christ’s Holy and Glorious Resurrection.

His Grace before thanking Parish Priest Fr John Adam and members of the executive committee for their warm welcome, was pleased to convey the Paternal blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and wished all the faithful in Morwell a blessed remaining Lenten period and a blessed Anastasi
