Melbourne: Five Loaves volunteers feed vulnerable in crisis accomadation
Despite our reputation as the “lucky country”, the issue of hunger exists in Australia but is largely unnoticed. The reality is that 3.6 million Australians (15%) have experienced food insecurity at least once in the last 12 months. Three in five of these individuals experience food insecurity at least once a month.
With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and the guidance of His Grace Bishop Kyriakos, the District of Melbourne’s Five Loaves volunteers cooked an all time favourite comfort dish, bangers and mash, sautéed onions, gravy and peas, packaged with fresh bread rolls and our usual dessert treats and fruit.
The food was well received from the local community and crisis centres that were very appreciative of our ongoing support.
