Meeting of the Ecumenical Patriarch with the Ukrainian President in Switzerland

On the sidelines of the Summit for Peace in Ukraine, which takes place on June 15-16 in Switzerland, the President of Ukraine, Mr. Volodymyr Zelenskyi met, on Saturday, 15 June 2024, with His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who is the only religious leader who was invited and participates in this International Conference, following the official invitation of the President of the Swiss Confederation, Ms. Viola Amherd.

The Ukrainian President thanked His All-Holiness for supporting his country, praying for peace and helping Ukrainians who are suffering from Russian aggression.

“It is very important that you are with us today at the Peace Summit. Thank you for your humanitarian support, especially regarding the return of Ukrainian children and the exchange of prisoners. This is very important for us,” said Mr. Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

The President noted, in particular, the efforts of the Ecumenical Patriarch to promote the development and strengthening of Orthodoxy in Ukraine and the dialogue with the Churches of the world and partner states on this matter.

His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was accompanied by Their Eminences, Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon and Metropolitan Maximos of Switzerland, as well as by the Grand Ecclesiarch Archimandrite Aetios, director of the Personal Patriarchal Office.
