Meatfare Sunday in Perth, WA
On Meatfare Sunday, the 10th of March 2024, His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea, Archiepiscopal Vicar of the Archdiocesan District of Perth, officiated at the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Church of Saint Nektarios in Dianella, Perth.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy a special thanksgiving Doxology was recited for the centenary of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia and for the recent benefaction of the Mother Church of Constantinople in relation to the institution of a Holy Eparchial Synod in Australia and the approval of the Archdiocese’s new Constitution. This was then followed by the reading of the Archdiocese’s 65th Encyclical that related to the above.
At the conclusion of the Doxology, the Polychronion of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was chanted followed by the Anthem of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
This then led into the Saint Nektarios Church fund-raising Meatfare Luncheon that took place in the Archdiocese function room and in the presence of His Grace Bishop Elpidios. Approximately 250 people attended the function including the Pontian Brotherhood of Saint George Dance group and who entertained everyone with their wonderful dancing.
In the evening, the Castellorizian Association of WA also held its 2024 annual Apokries Dinner that was held at the Kazzi House in Mt Hawthorn. Over 200 people attended this function. His Grace Bishop Elpidios conveyed to all, the paternal blessings and love of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and briefly spoke to all about the Archdiocese centenary and the new Constitution recently approved by the Sacred Centre of Orthodoxy at the Phanar.
