Komotini: Memorial Service held for the victims of the Genocide of the Greeks of Thrace

On Sunday, 14 April 2024, the fourth Sunday of Lent, His Eminence Metropolitan Panteleimon of Maroneia and Komotini liturgised at the Parish Church of Saint Barbara Komotini and conducted a memorial service for the repose of the souls of all the Thracians who were murdered by the Bulgarians and the Young Turks, during the Genocide of Thracian Greeks. At the memorial, a student of the Greek Philology department of the Democritus University of Thrace, Mr. Raphael Bakhtsevanidis, spoke.

Afterwards, in the presence of local authorities, associations and a large crowd of believers, the memorial service was prayed in front of the monument to the victims of the persecution of the Thracian Greeks, which is located in the courtyard of the Holy Parish Church of Saint Barbara Komotini.

Metropolitan Panteleimon then made his way to Xylagani where he held another memorial service at the War Memorial Monument for the repose of the 29 people of Xylagani who were murdered by the Bulgarians.
