Joyous celebration of the Feast of Saint Nicholas in Larissa, Greece

On Wednesday, 6 December 2023, the Feast Day of Saint Nicholas was joyously celebrated in the magnificent Church of ‘Agios Nikolaos’ in Larissa, Greece. On this day, the Church commemorates the great Hierarch Saint Nicholas, protector of the orphans and the suffering, the man of God and good Shepherd, the Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, the wonderworker and myrrh-flowing.

The festive Divine Liturgy was presided over by the Protosyncellus of the Holy Metropolis of Larissa and Tyrnavos, and Proistamenos of the Parish, Archimandrite Ignatios Mourtzanos, who was also joined by the assistant clergy of the Church.

The holy feast day sermon was delivered by Protopresbyter Father Sotirios Apostolopoulos, who referred to the virtues of the great mystic of grace, the miracle worker Saint Nicholas, who throughout his life tried to ease people’s pain, giving them hope and the certainty of eternal life.

Prior to the dismissal of the Divine Liturgy, Fr. Ignatios, after firstly conveying the wishes and blessings of His Eminence Metropolitan Ieronymos of Larissa and Tyrnavos, who has been affected by the coronavirus that is currently raging in the Thessalian city, thanked the local leaders and the faithful people for their touching prayerful presence, wishing that Saint Nicholas would become a daily “Rule of Faith and Icon of meekness” for all Christians who thirst for repentance and salvation.
