Holy Synod of Church of Ukraine condemned ‘Russian World’ as heretical doctrine

On Friday, 10 May 2024, a regular meeting of the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine was held in the Synodal Hall of the Metropolitan House, the residence of the Primate of the Orthodox Church at St Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral. The meeting was attended by all members of the Synod.

The Holy Synod received a detailed report from His Beatitude Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine regarding his recent visit to Geneva, Switzerland, on 10 April 2024, and the meetings held at the World Council of Churches, the Ecumenical Institute at Château de Bossey, and the Orthodox Centre of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Chambesy.

Following a proposal from the Synodal Calendar Commission, the Holy Synod granted its blessing for a local commemoration to be observed in the Kyiv Eparchy on July 16th, marking the day after the feast of Prince Volodymyr, the Council of Kyivan Saints.

Responding to requests from Metropolitan Andriy of Halych, who heads the Ivano-Frankivsk Eparchy, and Archbishop Herman of Kamianets-Podilskyi and Novoushytskyi, the Holy Synod granted its blessing for the establishment of male monasteries in these respective eparchies and appointed their leaders.

The Synod clarified the address of the Poltava Eparchy’s administration and approved the corresponding amendments to its statute.

The next Bishops’ Council is scheduled to be held on May 11, 2024, in Kyiv in the Refectory Church of the Pechersk Holy Dormition Lavra with the following agenda:

  • The Primate presented a comprehensive report on the developments within the Local Church since the convening of the Local Council on July 27, 2023.

  • The decisions of the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) from the period following the Local Council of July 27, 2023, along with the resulting actions, were also endorsed by the Council.

Additionally, the Synod deliberated on draft documents slated for submission to the Council of Bishops and recommended their adoption.
