On Saturday morning, 6 January, His Eminence Metropolitan Demetrios presided over the Divine Liturgy of the Great Feast Day amidst a large congregation at the Metropolitan Church of St. Demetrios.

The Diving for of the Holy Cross took place on the beach of the island in front of the Town Hall, following a brief invocation for the prosperity of the people of the city and the country, along with a blessing of the waters of the historic Propontis.

Among the ten courageous young people who plunged into the sea, Manolis Minaoglou, a dynamic member of the Greek community, retrieved the Cross and was awarded a silver cross by the Metropolitan. The other participants, including a woman, received a New Year’s commemorative gift.

The event concluded with a festive meal generously provided by the Ephorate Committee of the Princes’ Islands.
