His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew arrives in Ioannina, Greece
His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew arrived on Sunday, July 10, in the late afternoon, at the “King Pyrrhos” airport of Ioannina, where he was received by Metropolitan Maximos of Ioannina.
Shortly after his arrival, the Ecumenical Patriarch visited the Holy Metochion of the Monastery of Saint Catherine of Sinai, where he was received by Archbishop Damianos of Sinai, Faran and Raithos , along with the fathers of Metochion.
His All-Holiness is visiting Ioannina, following the kind invitation of Metropolitan Maximos and the local Authorities, to preside over the Consecration of the newly built Church in honour of Saint Paisios and the first Divine Liturgy.
During his four-day visit, His All-Holiness will visit Holy Monasteries and Foundations of the Holy Metropolis of Ioannina, he will have meetings with the Regional Governor of Epirus, Mr. Alexandros Kahrimanis and the Mayor of Ioannina, Mr. Moses Elisaf, and will be named an honorary Citizen of Ioannina, as also honorary Professor of the Schools of the University of Ioannina.
The Patriarchal Escort consists of His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Myron, His Eminence Metropolitan Ioakim of Proussa, and His Eminence Metropolitan Platon of Lagkada, litis and Rentinis, The Very Rev Fr Gregory, Chief Secretary, Deacon Fr Vosporios, Undersecretary of the Holy and Holy Synod, Mr. Nikolaos-Georgios Papachristou, Director of the Patriarchal Press and Communication Office, and Mr. Petros Bazgarlo, Secretary of the Patriarchate.
His Eminence Geron Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalkidon was appointed the Patriarchal Commissioner in His All-Holiness’ absense, who earlier escorted The Partriarch to the Airport in Constantinople, together with The Great Ecclesiarch of the Patriarch, Very Rev Fr Aetios Director of the Personal Patriarchal Office.
