Great and Holy Friday in the Diocese of Perth

On Friday, April 18, the Orthodox parishes of our Holy Archdiocese throughout Perth solemnly commemorated Great and Holy Friday, marking the Passion and Burial of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

The services reflected the deep spiritual significance of this most sacred day in the Orthodox liturgical calendar.

At the Church of the Annunciation of Our Lady (Evangelismos), the evening Epitaphios service was presided over by His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Perth, with the honoured presence of the Consul of Greece in Perth, Mrs Eleni Georgopoulou.

It was especially heartening to witness so many young families participating in the services across the parishes of Perth. Their presence is a testament to the Greek Orthodox community’s enduring dedication to preserving and honouring the rich spiritual and liturgical traditions of our faith here in Western Australia.

Following the Epitaphios procession, His Grace invited the Greek consul to address the large congregation gathered outside the church. His Grace also conveyed the blessings and love of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia to all the faithful in attendance.
