GO Fellowship Melbourne: “The role of an Orthodox Godparent in the Modern World” (Video)

With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and under the guidance of His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, the Archdiocesan District of Melbourne’s GO Fellowship initiative hosted a talk at the Parish of Saints Constantine and Helen in South Yarra titled: The role of an Orthodox Godparent in the Modern World.
The talk was presented by Parish Priest Father Panteleimon and Presvytera Silouanne Laskaris in the presence of the Orthodox faithful.
The talk aimed to educate the audience about the imperative role the Godparent has in the raising of a new Orthodox Christian within the Church.

In the talk, Presvytera Silouanne emphasised how Godparenting is not only providing a yearly Easter candle. Instead, it is to be an active participant in the life of their God child to in turn bestow the dogmas of the Church and principally to show how to love our Lord and our neighbour.

Fr Panteliemon reinforced that Godparenting is not only to satisfy ethnic traditions and customs but rather before becoming a Godparent, it is living an Orthodox lifestyle, understanding the responsibility and being immersed in the sanctity of the Holy Mysteries of Baptism and Chrismation.
After the talk, the audience asked questions and were treated to light refreshments.
