GO Fellowship Melbourne hosts talk on the Ecumenical Councils

On the 30th of May 2024, with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, and under the guidance of His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, GO Fellowship Melbourne continued its series of talks titled “Come and See: ‘We have found Him’” (John 1:45). The special guest speaker of the night, Fr Dimitrios Catrinei, Parish Priest of the Church of the Dormition of Our Lady, North Altona, presented a talk titled: “The Ecumenical Councils”, which focused on the first three Ecumenical Councils.

Fr Dimitrios spoke about why the Church called these Councils, and the significant contributions of the God-bearing Fathers to the upholding and defence of Orthodox doctrines. He also explained how all decisions made by the Church at the Ecumenical Councils are guided by the Holy Spirit.

The talk attracted many attendees who engaged in questions about the topic with a panel consisting of Fr Dimitrios Catrinei and Fr Chris Dimolianis.

The series, Come and See, will explore worship and life in the Orthodox Christian Church, with fortnightly talks every alternating Thursday at the parish of Sts Raphael, Nicholas and Irene in Bentleigh.

The purpose of this series of talks is to engage the faithful and seekers of our Christian faith in the beauty, meaning and symbolism of Orthodox Christian worship and how it unites heaven and earth.
