GO Fellowship Melbourne hosts a talk “on persecution”
On 21 March 2024, with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, and under the guidance of His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, the GO Fellowship Melbourne continued its series of talks entitled, Come and See: “We have found Him” (John 1:45).
The talk attracted many attendees, who engaged in questions on the subject of persecution, with a panel consisting of His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, Father Chris Dimolianis and Father Panagiotis Zoumboulis.
The evening began with Fr. Chris presenting passages from the Bible on the subject of persecution. Fr. Chris noted that all who desire to follow Christ will face persecution, yet Christians need not fear, for Jesus says “My strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Bishop Kyriakos then emphasised to the faithful never to underestimate the power of prayer, especially in times of persecution. Father Panagiotis spoke about the power of the Holy Sacraments, in strengthening Christians in times of persecution and that salvation is found in the Orthodox Church.
The series, “Come and See”, will explore the worship and life of the Orthodox Christian Church, with fortnightly talks every alternate Thursday at the parish of Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene in Bentleigh. The purpose of this series of talks is to engage believers and seekers of our Christian faith, in the beauty, meaning and symbolism of Orthodox Christian worship and how it unites heaven and earth.
