Feast day of the Entry of the Theotokos into the Temple was celebrated in Cairo

The celebration of the Entry of the Theotokos into the Temple was observed with solemnity at the Community Church of Spetseropouleio Megaron in Cairo.

This significant feast day, embedded in the hearts of all believers, marks a sacred moment in the life of the Mother of God. It stands as one of the principal feasts of reverence and devotion for Christians worldwide.

His Eminence Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis and Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo celebrated the Vespers service on Monday, 30 November 2023, alongside Archimandrites Stefanos, Michael, Theodore, Fathers Youssef and George, and Deacon Youssef. During the service, Fr. Stefanos emphasised that the Theotokos’s entry into the Temple served as spiritual preparation for her later reception of the momentous news from the Archangel Gabriel regarding her role as the mother of our Lord. He highlighted her significance as the source of all spiritual joy, bringing joy to her parents when she was born and subsequently she was offered to the Holy Temple.

The feast drew the participation of students from Greek schools in Cairo, accompanied by their teachers. The children, displaying joyful and devout countenances, lit candles, made the sign of the Cross, and actively participated in the service.

Metropolitan Nikodimos presided over the Divine Liturgy, co-celebrated by Archimandrites Stefanos and Parthenios, and Deacon Youssef. The church welcomed a congregation of both Greek and Arabic-speaking believers who gathered in love to partake in the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy.

Following the Divine Liturgy on both festive days, a meal was offered to all attendees, courtesy of the Greek Community, at the reception area situated in the courtyard of the schools.
