Empowering Emerging Leaders: The Victorian Multicultural Commission Hosts Youth Leadership Workshop with Intersect Global Partners
On Wednesday, 11 December 2024, Dr. Teresa De Fazio OAM, founder of Intersect Global Partners, delivered a transformative Youth Leaders Workshop at the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC). The workshop brought together young leaders from diverse organisations, including the Commission for Children and Young People, the Centre for Multicultural Youth, Future Women, YMCA Youth Parliament, and the VMC’s Multicultural Youth Network.
Participants, representing a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, engaged deeply in the workshop, which focused on leadership awareness and provided tools to tackle challenges often overlooked in traditional education.
Dr. De Fazio’s facilitation style created a dynamic and inclusive environment, encouraging participants to explore innovative leadership strategies. Through interactive discussions and practical exercises, attendees examined the evolving nature of leadership within multicultural and community contexts. The session emphasised key skills, such as creative problem-solving, collaboration, and resilience—essential qualities for addressing real-world issues.
Reflecting on the workshop, Kano, current VMC Youth Commissioner, said, “What stood out most for me was the energy and passion of these young leaders. Their dedication to creating positive change was truly inspiring, prompting me to reflect on the importance of nurturing and amplifying young voices to help shape a better future.”
Numan, a member of the VMC’s Multicultural Youth Network, added, “The workshop was an amazing opportunity to learn not just as individuals but as part of a supportive and diverse peer group. The connections we’ve built here will be invaluable as we take on challenges in our communities.”
The workshop concluded with participants feeling inspired and equipped to drive meaningful change in their communities. It underscored the importance of creating spaces for young people to learn, collaborate, and grow into the leaders of tomorrow. By equipping young leaders with the right tools and fostering a supportive network, initiatives like this workshop can create lasting positive impacts.
The VMC remains committed to empowering youth and facilitating discussions and programmes that enhance outcomes for young people from multi-faith and multicultural communities.
