Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon officiates at the Church of Saint Euphemia

On the Sunday of the Prodigal Son, 3 March 2024, His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon officiated at the Matins and Divine Liturgy at the historical Holy Metropolitan Church of Saint Euphemia, which is located in the district of the bustling and famous market of Chalcedon.

The sacrament of the Holy Eucharist which conducted by the Protosyncellus of the Metropolis, Archimandrite Evgenios Karatzas along with Deacon Fr. Ieronymos. The President and the members of the Chalcedon Community attended the church service, along with many believers from the region, but also from around it, while believers from abroad participated who recited the Lord’s Prayer in their own language, thus expressing the unity of the faith. It is worth noting that Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel shows special and paternal care towards our Orthodox brothers and sisters, who live on the borders of the Metropolis.

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel spoke to the faithful analysing the Gospel passage of the day, emphasising the concept of repentance and how it can lead us to the arms of God the Father through forgiveness and charity towards our fellow human being.

Afterwards, a delicious meal was offered to everyone from the Community on the porch of the Holy Church, with a surprise in store for the President who served for many years and the current General Secretary of the Chalcedon Community, Archon Hartoularios Mr. Georgios Stephanopoulos, emeritus professor at the Bosphorus-Boğaziçi University, offering him a cake for his birthday which was on 29 February, all wishing him many blessed and healthy years.
