Ecumenical Patriarchate’s Metropolitan Chrystostomos of Helioupolis & Theira reposes in the Lord

His Eminence Metropolitan Chrystostomos of Helioupolis & Theira fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday, 13 April, 2022, aged 95 Years old.

Chrysostomos Mavrogiannopoulos was born on Naxos in the Cyclades on April 8, 1927.

He graduated from the Theological School of Athens in 1952. He is also a graduate of the Law School of Athens. He was ordained a Deacon on January 18, 1952 and an Priest on December 14, 1954. He served as a Deacon and Priest in the Archdiocese of Athens (1952-1960).

In 1961 he was appointed Vicar of St. Andrew’s Church in London. On December 19, 1970, he was ordained titular Bishop of Kyanea, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain. On July 10, 2019, he was elected Metropolitan of Heliopolis and Theira.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 15 at 12 noon at the Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Ilioupolis, Attica and the burial the next day in the birthplace of the blessed hierarch, in Naxos.
