Ecumenical Patriarchate to host Academic Symposium honoring the 1700th Anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council

As part of its official celebratory events commemorating the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea (325 AD), the Ecumenical Patriarchate will host a distinguished Academic Symposium to be held in Constantinople and Nicaea, from April 24 to 26, 2025.

The sessions of the symposium will take place at the Marasleios Urban School in Constantinople and the Municipal Hall of Nicaea (İznik). His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will be present and will deliver the official opening address, marking the start of the symposium’s proceedings.

The event is sponsored by the Huffington Ecumenical Institute of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Boston.

This high-level academic gathering will bring together some of the world’s most renowned scholars and authors specialising in topics directly related to the First Ecumenical Council and its enduring impact on the Christian world. Discussions will explore the theological, historical, and ecclesiological significance of the Council that defined foundational aspects of Christian doctrine and unity.

The Ecumenical Patriarchate extends a warm invitation to all interested parties to follow the symposium and its contributions to ecumenical scholarship and inter-Christian understanding.
