Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew visits the Diocese of Tartu, Estonia

The city of Tartu was the second destination of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew’s visit to Estonia.

On Friday morning, on the occasion of His All-Holiness’ arrival in the city, which is the seat of the Holy Diocese of Tartu of the Autonomous Church of Estonia, a Doxology was held in the Holy Dormition Cathedral. His Grace Bishop Ilias of Tartu welcomed the Ecumenical Patriarch with warm words, who, in his reply, congratulated him on his work and expressed the continuous support of the Mother Church to the Church of Estonia.

The Ecumenical Patriarch venerated the holy relics of the Holy Hieromartyrs Nicholas and Michael, Presbyters who were martyred in 1919, together with the relics of Saint Hieromartyr Bishop Platon.

Later, the Ecumenical Patriarch was extended a warm welcome by the Mayor of the city of Tartu, Mr. Urmas Klaas, at the hotel where His All-Holiness was staying. Afterwards, the Mayor of Tartu Mr. Klaas, with the Rector of the University of Tartu, Academic Mr. Toomas Asser, hosted a lunch in honour of the Ecumenical Patriarch.
