Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew performs Doxology before Holy Icon of Panagia Axion Esti, in NE Greece city of Komotini

The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, on Thursday performed an official Doxology, along with the resident Metropolitan, at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of Theotokos, in northeast city of Komotini, where the holy icon of Panagia Axion Esti has been placed for veneration by the faithful.

The wonder-working Holy Icon was conveyed from the Mount Athos capital of Karyes and will remain in Komotini until Sept. 12. A con-celebratory Doxology service was also held at the Cathedral of Sts. Constantine and Helen, in the town of Sapes, while later His All-Holiness performed a blessing ceremony of a new courtyard wall around the Holy Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni.

The project was funded by a donation from Mt. Athos Civil Governor Athanasios Martinos, who earlier was honored by the Metropolis of Maronia and Komotini with its highest distinction.

The Orthodoxia news agency and Pemptousia TV livestreamed the conveying of the Holy Icon Axion Esti to Thrace and all of the Holy Services with cameras crews and correspondents.
