Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew joyously welcomed at the Archdiocese of Athens

The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, commenced a four-day pastoral visit to Athens on Thursday evening, with the Primate of the Mother Church welcomed at the Athens Archdiocese by His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos.

His All Holiness expressed heartfelt thanks for the fraternal welcome, as he underlined, while conveying the blessing and love of the Mother Church of Constantinople.

Earlier on Friday, the Ecumenical Patriarch visited the facilities of Greece’s public broadcaster, where among others, he was musically greeted by the network’s symphonic orchestra and choir.

Later this evening, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will be declared an honorary professor of the Hellenic Open University, during an awards ceremony that coincides with today’s International Day against Desertification and Drought of the Planet.

The title of honorary professor aims to showcase the Ecumenical Patriarch’s internationally recognized and long-standing contribution to the protection and improvement of the natural environment. At the end of the ceremony, the Ecumenical Patriarch will deliver an address entitled “Decalogue of Social Ecology”.
