Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew conducts Agiasmos for the beginning of the preparation of the Holy Myrrh

His All Holiness, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, presided over the Divine Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts on the morning of Great and Holy Monday, 18 April, 2022, at the Holy and venerable Patriarchal Church of Saint George, Phanar.

At the end of the Divine Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, His All Holiness went in procession to the ‘Canopy of preparation  of The Holy Myrrh, in the presence of the Hierarchs, the Patriarchal Court, and the faithful, where he performed the Agiasmos, with which he sprinkled and sanctified the boilers.

He then read the special prayers for the beginning of the process of preparation of the Holy Myrrh and poured into the boilers a quantity of oil, wine, perfumes and flowers, and then lit the fire to start the cooking.

Immediately afterwards, the first chapter of the Gospel of Matthew was read out aloud.

Afterwards, the Hierarchs and clergy continued, in succession, to read chapters from the Holy Gospel.

In the afternoon of the same day, the Patriarch presided at the Matins of Great and Holy Tuesday (the Bridegroom Matins).
