Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Mayor İmamoğlu at the Church of the Ascension in Hypsomatheia

Yesterday was a historic and blessed day for the Hypsomatheia Community, because by the grace of our Lord, the works of the ground-up renovation of the Holy Church of the Ascension of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, have been completed.

With the blessing of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, and following the tireless, concerted and philanthropic efforts of our Supervisor, His Eminence Metropolitan Maximos of Selyvria, the President of the Committee, Mrs. Maria Tsitsekoglou and Mr. Stylianou Gulgioun, the interior and exterior of the Church were renovated, the Community Hall and the Sacristan house. The project was entirely undertaken by the Metropolitan Municipality of the City, headed by Mayor Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu and his associates.

“Today by the Grace of God, our Patriarch was able to conduct the opening of the doors of our Church with the honourable presence of the Local Mayor Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu, to whom His All-Holiness expressed the many thanks of the Church for the scientific and meticulous renovation of the Church.”

The souls of the benefactors and donors of the Church will be rejoicing as well as of the two late pioneer master craftsmen Nikolaos and Joseph, whose names are inscribed on an external plaque of the Church, which was revealed during the restoration work of the interior of the Church. The ceremony was attended by many officials and a large number of people.
