Desecration of Christ’s Resurrection Icon at Grave of late Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte

In the early hours of 20 July, an unknown individual desecrated the icon of the Resurrection of Christ, which is placed on the grave of the late Bulgarian Patriarch and Sofia Metropolitan Neophyte. The sacred icon, located under the colonnade of the Metropolitan Church “St. Nedelya” in the capital, was subjected to this act of vandalism.

Authorities have initiated actions to restore the icon and have signaled the incident for further investigation. The church community is deeply saddened by this sacrilegious act and is committed to ensuring the icon is respectfully and properly restored.
