The Feast of the Indiction celebrated in Lusaka with special focus on environmental protection
In accordance with ecclesiastical tradition, the beginning of the Indiction—the ecclesiastical New Year—was celebrated in Lusaka, alongside the feast commemorating Saint Alexander, the Patriarch of Constantinople. Since 1989, the Mother Church has dedicated the Feast Day of the Indiction to praying for the protection of the natural environment.
Following the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, His Eminence Metropolitan John of Zambia led a procession with the icon of Saint Alexander and conducted a blessing of the Fanouropita, a traditional cake made in honour of Saint Fanourios. The day concluded with a communal meal, fostering fellowship and celebration among attendees.
