Coptic Church delegation visits Archbishop of Athens to strengthen ecclesiastical ties

A delegation from the Coptic Orthodox Church, led by Bishop Apollo of South Sinai, paid a visit to His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece on Monday morning, 16 December 2024.. The six-member delegation visited Greece with the blessing of Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria.

During the meeting, the strong and enduring relationship between the Greek Orthodox Church and the Coptic Orthodox Church was reaffirmed. Archbishop Ieronymos expressed his gratitude for the Coptic Orthodox Church’s support on various matters, particularly regarding the Holy Monastery of Sinai.

The discussions further highlighted the shared history and collaboration between the two Churches, emphasising the importance of unity in the face of common challenges.

Protopresbyter Emmanuel Papamikroulis, Secretary of the Synodal Committee on Inter-Orthodox and Inter-Christian Relations, was also present at the meeting, underscoring the significance of fostering inter-Christian dialogue and cooperation.
