Celebration of the anniversary of “OXI Day” in Melbourne

The anniversary of the 28th of October 1940 was celebrated with great splendour in Melbourne. On Saturday morning, at the Archdiocesan Church of Saint Eustathios, His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Melbourne, presided over the Divine Liturgy and Doxology Service on the occasion of the 83rd Anniversary of ‘OXI Day”, while he also conveyed to the congregation the wishes and blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

Afterwards, His Grace Bishop Kyriakos conducted a Memorial Service at the Hellenic-Australian Memorial and at the Shrine of Remembrance.

Present for the commemorations where, among others, the Consul General of Greece in Melbourne, Mr. Emmanuel Kakavelakis, Mr. Nick Staikos MP , representing the Premier of Victoria, Ms. Jacinta Allan, and the President of the Greek Community of Melbourne, Mr. Bill Papastergiadis.
