Blessing of the Vasilopita in two of Perth’s Aged Care Homes

At the commencement of the New Year, His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea, Archiepiscopal Vicar of the Archdiocesan District of Perth, visited two of Perth’s Residential Aged Care Homes and conducted the blessing and cutting of the Vasilopita for the New Year.

The first Nursing Home visited was Rosewood Aged Care located close to the Church of the Annunciation in West Perth. Fr Emmanuel Stamatiou, Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne and parish priest of the Church of the Annunciation together with Deacon Nicholas Kakulas, accompanied His Grace and assisted in the service. The residents were given a summary of the history behind the cutting of the Vasilopita. It was wonderful to see the family members of the residents also in attendance.

The second Nursing Home to be visited was the Hellenic Community Aged Care facility, located only 3km from the Archdiocesan District of Perth offices in Dianella.

In attendance was Father Terry Gerovasilis, the parish priest of the Church of Saints Constantine and Helene and who attends to the spiritual needs of the residents at the Hellenic Community Aged Care, as well as the recently appointed CEO of the Hellenic Community of WA, Mr. Paul Savvas.

His Grace Bishop Elpidios conveyed to the residents of both Residential Aged Care Homes, the blessings and paternal love of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and wished all a salvific and peaceful 2024.
