Bishop of Efkarpia laid to rest in his birthplace

The funeral service for the late Bishop Ierotheos of Efkarpia, a revered Hierarch of the Ecumenical Throne and Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Saint Irene Chrysovalantou in Astoria, New York, took place on Thursday, 14 March 2024. At noon, his burial commenced at the Cemetery of Thermo in Aitoloakarnania.

Earlier that morning, the funeral service was held at the Holy Trinity Church of Patras, where Bishop Ierotheos had served diligently for many years. His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Patras presided over the service, joined by several Hierarchs, including His Eminence Metropolitan Damaskinos of Aetolia and Acarnania.

Following the service, the revered Bishop’s body were transferred to his birthplace, Thermo of Aitoloakarnania. There, a memorial service was conducted, attended by the Protosyncellus of the Holy Metropolis, the Mayor of Thermo, and other dignitaries. Metropolitan Damaskinos of Aetolia and Acarnania conveyed the profound grief and sorrow of the local Church at the loss of the esteemed Hierarch.

Subsequently, a procession made its way to the Cemetery of Thermo, where Bishop Ierotheos was laid to rest.
