Bishop Evmenios of Chora liturgised at the Church of Saint Eleftherios in Brunswick, on the Tuesday of Bright-week

On the Tuesday of Bright-week, 22 April 2025, the Parish-Community of Saint Eleftherios, in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick, in the Holy Diocese of Chora, honoured with devout reverence the 179 Holy Martyrs of the Holy Pantokrator Monastery in Dao Penteli, who were massacred during the Easter period in the year 1680.

The Parish-Community keeps a priceless portion of the holy relics of the Saints, a gift from two devout sisters of the Parish, who are now nuns of the aforementioned Holy Monastery.

On Monday, 21 April, a festal Hierarchical Vespers was celebrated, with a procession of the holy relic, in the presence of the President of the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria, Mr. Bill Papastergiadis, the priests of the district, as well as a multitude of devout pilgrims who flooded the Holy Church.

On Tuesday, 22 April, a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated, presided over by His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Chora, who was joined by Fr. Philip, Fr. Kyriakos and Mr. Michael Porphyris, representative of the Community.

This day also coincided with the memory of the Holy New Martyrs Raphael, Nicholas and Irene. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated in honour of both feasts, while His Grace pointed out in his address that “these Saints are not simply martyr figures of the past; they are living proofs of the Resurrection, they walk among us as living resurrections, inspiring us to experience our own Resurrection.”

His Grace also conveyed the warm wishes and love of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
