Archbishop of Cyprus: “We need to preserve the Republic of Cyprus, Orthodoxy and the Greek language”

A Poly-Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Sunday, 12 November 2023, at the Holy Church of Saints Panteleimon and Paraskevi in Harrow, London. His Beatitude Archbishop George of Cyprus presided over the Divine Liturgy, which was co-celebrated by His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain, His Eminence Metropolitan Athanasios of Kolonia, Their Graces, Bishop Maximos of Melitene and Bishop Iakovos of Claudioupolis, as well as clergymen of the Holy Archdiocese and the Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of Timios Prodromos in Essex.

The Diplomatic Authorities of Greece and Cyprus, Archons of the Ecumenical Throne, representatives of London of Religious Communities and pilgrims from various parts of England who arrived to receive the blessing of the Archbishop also attended the service.

The Archbishop of Cyprus addressed the congregation and thanked the Holy Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain for the hospitality.

In his homily, he sent a warning about Turkish plans for full control of Cyprus and a message about the need to preserve the Republic of Cyprus, as well as Orthodoxy and the Greek language.

Archbishop Nikitas warmly thanked the Archbishop of Cyprus for his visit and the opportunity to concelebrate the Divine Liturgy and receive his blessing, offering him a symbolic gift on behalf of the Holy Archdiocese.

Then, the Ecclesiastical Council of the Church offered gifts to the Archbishop of Cyprus and the Archbishop of Thyateira.

A luncheon followed in the church hall and in the evening a dinner was held in North London in honour of the Archbishop of Cyprus.
