Archbishop of Cyprus: Russia’s invasion of Ukraine also created an alibi for Turkey

Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus attended the closing ceremony of the Theological School of Cyprus.

Archbishop Chrysostomos also referred to the political situation concerning Cyprus, stressing that “as a Cypriot Hellenism we are going through the most difficult turning point in our history”.

He added that as time passes Turkey behaves with arrogance towards the inalienable rights of the Cypriot people.

Unfortunately, he noted, Russia’s recent invasion of Ukraine also created an alibi for Turkey.

Well, boastful, it is also presented on the international stage as a peacekeeping force. The one that for forty-eight years violates every notion of law and human rights not only in Cyprus, but also in other neighboring countries. ”

In the midst of these tragic events, my dear friends, the laymen, the spiritual ones, and the clergy, your pastoral duties.

But don’t be intimidated. In our long history, we went through much worse conditions and yet, Grace and the love of God preserved Hellenism in the land of its fathers and ancestors.

The Mother Church has always been a pioneer in these sacred struggles. You have the same role to play today. Become inspirers and mentors for the salvation of our country.

And the God of Justice will bless our struggles and shine the Light of Justice and Freedom on our hapless island. “
