Archbishop Makarios of Australia: “The Church and Christ give meaning to our lives”

“You have heard it said many times, that time heals everything. However, there are things that time cannot heal.”, comments His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, in his recent video message on the Instagram social networking site.

“Time simply helps us learn to live with the pain,” His Eminence points out, adding that the Church and Christ take us a step further: “The Church and Christ give meaning to our lives and even though we have pain, our everyday life is replete with joy!”

Here is the post with the message from the Archbishop of Australia:

You have heard it said many times, that time heals everything. However, there are things that time cannot heal. Indeed, Dostoevsky, the renowned Russian writer, once put forth a question to someone: “ if I had the ability to ask God something, what would I ask Him?”.

And he himself responded: “Why are there premature deaths?, Why do children die? Why do young people die?”. This is something from which someone cannot easily recover from. Time, therefore, cannot heal everything, no matter how much we might wish to accept this or no matter how often we might say this in our daily lives.

Time, simply, instructs and teaches us how to live with the pain. Time teaches us to live with the pain. Christ now comes together with the Church and takes us a step further. Even though we have pain, even though we are experiencing some difficulty, even though we may have some sorrow or cancer, even though we have a death in our midst, the Church and Christ give meaning to our life, and even though we have pain, our everyday life is replete with joy!
