Archbishop Makarios of Australia awarded volunteers of the Greek Welfare Centre

On Thursday, 2 November 2023, the Greek Welfare Centre of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, as part of the Community Awareness Month “October 2023”, organised a dinner in Sydney in honour of its volunteers, which was also honoured with the presence of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

His Eminence awarded some of the Organisation’s volunteers, who have generously given their time and energy for many years, to serve those in need, with much love and a sacrificial spirit.

It is noted that since 1975, thousands of volunteers of the Greek Welfare Centre have devoted themselves wholeheartedly to supporting the needs of the community. In recent years, their contribution has been particularly valuable, providing significant support to those affected by the pandemic, not only to members of the Greek community but also to the wider Australian community.

Also in attendance at the dinner held in honour of the volunteers, were, among other, Their Graces, Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis, Bishop Christodoulos of Magnesia and Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis, the Consul General of Greece in Sydney, Mr. Yannis Mallikourtis, many clergymen of the local Church and representatives of other organisations of the Omogenia, who joined their voices with that of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia to express their gratitude to the volunteers of the Greek Welfare Centre for the wonderful work that they continue to do.
