Archbishop Makarios of Australia addresses struggling couples: “Start seeing the good in each other”

With paternal concern and love, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios addresses couples whose family peace is being tested and urges them to set themselves a challenge, to start recording the charisms of their spouses. “Toxicity and hatred exist because we don’t see the good and the effort that the other person is making,” he notes, among other things, in his video message on the Instagram social networking site.

More in detail, His Eminence observes by way of introduction that nowadays there is a way of life, which does not help couples to enjoy each other and the family to walk in love and peace, but a very toxic environment is created and everyday life becomes too painful. “Each person begins to see only negative things in the other,” he points out and adds: “It’s not that the other person doesn’t have charisms or gifts, all people have gifts, but we’ve already entered this process and we only see negative things.”

His Eminence then asks everyone to try making a new effort, like an experiment: to start, for a week or ten days, recording all the positive things they see in the person of their husband or wife. “Begin with the very small things. And then you will see that there is always scope for all toxicity to disappear”, he emphasises and concludes with the exhortation: “So begin with seeing the good things which always exist in the life of all people”.
