Archbishop Makarios arrives in the “city of Churches”

In Adelaide, the “city of Churches”, as it has been aptly characterised, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios Australia arrived on the morning of Saturday, February 26, accompanied by Archimandrite Very Rev. Fr. Christoforos Krikelis, Protosyggellos of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, Archdeacon Fr. Athenagoras and Deacon Fr. Ireneos, in order to make a pastoral visit, after the lifting of restrictions.

His Eminence was welcomed at the airport by His Grace Bishop Silouan of Sinope, Archepiscopal Vicar of Adelaide, and several clergy, associates of the Archdiocesan District of Adelaide and faithful from the city.

Immediately after his arrival, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios visited the Church of St. Panteleimon, where he performed a Trisagion for the rest of his blessed predecessors, Their Eminences, Metropolitans and Archbishops Christopher, Timothy, Theophylactus, Ezekiel and Stylianos of Australia, as well as all the clergy and laity who belonged to the flock of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia and now belong to the triumphant heavenly Church.

In the afternoon, His Eminence visited the residence of His Grace Bishop Pavlos of Christianoupolis, who is currently ill, to whom, among other things, he conveyed the wishes and love of His All Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, and then visited the newly built Church of Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene, where he oversaw the Iconography work of the Church and completing the interior decoration.

In the hall of the Church, an official dinner was given in honor of His Eminence Archbishop Makariou, which was attended by the priests of the Adelaide Archdiocesan district together with their Presvyteres, while during the meal students of the Greek Lyceum of South Australia performed traditional dances in honour of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios.
