Announcement on the work of the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate

The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate convened at the Phanar, under the chairmanship of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, for its regular meeting yesterday, Wednesday, 24 January 2024, to consider the matters listed on the agenda.

During this meeting, and at the suggestion of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the Holy and Sacred Synod transferred His Eminence Metropolitan Athenagoras of Mexico to the vacant Holy Metropolis of Bizye, While in the thus vacated Province of Mexico, the Synod unanimously elected Archimandrite Iakovos Andriopoulos as the New Metropolitan, who was until then Vicar General of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens.
